In 1962-1972 The department was headed by Vasit Vakhidovich Vakhidov (1917-1994), doctor of medical sciences, professor. Honored Scientist, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan. He was one of the founders of specialized surgical care in the republic, the organizer of the first multi-purpose surgical research institution in the republic. The basis of the doctoral dissertation of V.V. Vakhidova’s “Pleural fusion and the importance of their vessels in the pulmonary circulation”, which was successfully defended in 1962, underwent experimental studies and many years of experience as a thoracic surgeon. Vasit Vakhidovich was the first in the republic to start studying the surgical treatment of diseases of the heart and blood vessels. He was the organizer of the specialized vascular surgery service, and an angiosurgery center was created. Since 1960, Vasit Vakhidovich successfully performs a variety of heart operations. Under his leadership, 46 doctoral and master’s theses were defended, more than 20 all-union symposia, conferences, congresses, a number of which were held with the international participation of reputable surgeons, were held.
