The origins of the first medical educational institution in Uzbekistan were world-famous surgeons such as Orlov II, Voino-Yasenetsky V.F., Borovsky P.F. The school for training medical personnel organized by them under the program of medical faculties of the University began to study on 08/15/1919. In May 1920, professors and teachers who arrived on a special sanitary train from Moscow met with the organizers and employees of an already functioning medical school. It is with this period that the history of our department is connected.
The first head of the department of general surgery was (1920-1933) Nikolai Sergeevich Pereshivkin (1879-1933), doctor of medical sciences, professor. One of the organizers of the medical faculty of Turkestan State University, the organizer of surgical and urological care in Central Asia and the first medical journal “Medical Thoughts of Turkestan”. He graduated in 1903 from the medical faculty of Moscow University. He was a member of the Pirogovsky Surgical Society, the founder of the Russian Society of Urology, a member of the Society of German Surgeons, a member of the scientific Central Asian Medical Society.
In the years 1934-1941. The department was headed by Georgy Aleksandrovich Ilyin (1985-1941), doctor of medical sciences, professor. In 1920, he arrived in Tashkent as a senior assistant in the department of faculty surgery. He defended his doctoral dissertation in 1937 (“Clubhand and its treatment”). He is the author of scientific papers on the issues of orthopedics, traumatology, abdominal and general surgery, and the problem of treating hemorrhoids.
In 1941-1943 The department was headed by Evgeny Vitalievich Karchits (1880-1943), Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor. He graduated in 1910 from the medical faculty of Moscow University. In 1927, she was awarded the degree of Doctor of Medicine. The author of more than 70 scientific papers.
In the years 1943-1952. The department was headed by Sadik Alievich Masumov (1902-1972), doctor of medical sciences, professor, Honored Scientist of the Republic of Uzbekistan. He graduated in 1926 from the medical faculty. In 1936 he was awarded the academic title of candidate of medical sciences in terms of the totality of work. He defended his doctoral dissertation in 1943 (“Goiter of the Ferghana Valley”). He is the author of 66 scientific papers on thyroid pathology and the long-term results of surgical treatment of gallstone disease. For many years, he, together with a team of employees of the department and the clinic, was fundamentally engaged in the study of various aspects of thyroid pathology, work was carried out on an in-depth study of changes in the body with purulent and purulent-septic diseases. Under his leadership, 5 doctoral and more than 30 master’s theses were defended.
In 1952-1954 The department was headed by Ivan Ivanovich Orlov (1888-1954), doctor of medical sciences, professor. In 1935 he was awarded the degree of candidate of medical sciences, in 1936 – the degree of doctor of medical sciences. The author of more than 70 scientific papers on the clinic and surgical treatment of bone tuberculosis, chronic thrombopenia, acute serous meningo traumatic arachnoiditis, and abdominal injuries.
In 1954-1961 The department was headed by Halik Gafurovich Gafurov (1906-1961), doctor of medical sciences, professor. He defended his thesis in 1942 on the topic: “Damage to the skull and brain according to the materials of the Yangiyul hospital”, and his doctoral thesis in 1954 on the theme: “Issues of the pathogenesis and treatment of diffuse purulent peritonitis.”
In 1962-1972 The department was headed by Vasit Vakhidovich Vakhidov (1917-1994), doctor of medical sciences, professor. Honored Scientist, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan. He was one of the founders of specialized surgical care in the republic, the organizer of the first multi-purpose surgical research institution in the republic. The basis of the doctoral dissertation of V.V. Vakhidova’s “Pleural fusion and the importance of their vessels in the pulmonary circulation”, which was successfully defended in 1962, underwent experimental studies and many years of experience as a thoracic surgeon. Vasit Vakhidovich was the first in the republic to start studying the surgical treatment of diseases of the heart and blood vessels. He was the organizer of the specialized vascular surgery service, and an angiosurgery center was created. Since 1960, Vasit Vakhidovich successfully performs a variety of heart operations. Under his leadership, 46 doctoral and master’s theses were defended, more than 20 all-union symposia, conferences, congresses, a number of which were held with the international participation of reputable surgeons, were held. He wrote about 300 works, including monographs, copyright certificates, and methodological recommendations.
From 1971 to 1976 The department was headed by Rakhim Mukhamedovich Nurmukhamedov, born in 1925, doctor of medical sciences, professor, honored worker of sciences of the republic. Member of the Second World War. He defended his thesis in 1960 (“Hemodynamics in acute traumatic brain injury”), his doctoral thesis in 1968 (“Surgery for elderly and senile patients”). He is the author of more than 300 scientific works devoted to urgent problems of surgery of senile and old age, clinical issues, diagnosis and treatment of cholecystitis, gastric ulcer.
In 1976, the second medical faculty was organized, which included the Department of General Surgery from 1976 to 1991 headed by Peter Vasilievich Kuzionov – Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor. He defended his Ph.D. thesis in 1959 (“The state of some hemodynamic parameters in patients with obliterating endarteritis treated with pachyrcapine and intraarterial administration of blood”), his doctoral thesis in 1970 (“Hemodynamics, blood gases and redox processes in patients with cirrhosis of the liver with portal hypertension syndrome before and after treatment “). The author of 74 scientific papers on the study of the pathology of the biliary system. At that time, assistant professor Karimov Sh.N., assistant professor Vakhabov U.V., assistant professor Khodiev Kh.S., senior lecturer Kuzmina Yu.F. worked at the department.
In 1991, the Tashkent Medical Institute was divided with the organization of the first and second Tashkent State Medical Institutions. As part of the Second Tashkent State Medical Institute, the Department of General Surgery in 1992-1995. headed by Zarif Razhabovich Yangibaev, MD, professor.
In 1995–2013 The Department of General Surgery was headed by Bakhtiyor Duschanbaevich Babadzhanov, doctor of medical sciences since 1990, professor since 1991. Since 1994, Director of the Republican Center for Purulent Surgery and Surgical Complications of Diabetes MH of the Republic of Uzbekistan. He defended his thesis on “Development and evaluation of the effectiveness of various models of chronic abdominal ischemia syndrome” in 1983. He defended his doctoral dissertation on the “Role and place of enterohepatic insufficiency in the pathogenesis of acute diffuse peritonitis” in 1990. The author of more than 300 works on the problem of surgical infection.
In connection with the reform of the educational system in higher educational institutions and the organization of the Tashkent Medical Academy in 2005, the Department of General Surgery of the Faculty of Medicine of the Department of Surgical Diseases of the Faculty of Medicine and Prevention (head of the department, professor Ergashev U.Yu.) and the department of pediatric surgery (head of the department Professor Salimov Sh.T.). And since 2012, in order to optimize the activities of the departments, the Department of General Surgery of the Medical and Pedagogical Faculty (Professor Sadikov R.A.) and the Surgical Diseases of the Dental Faculty (Professor Kayumov T.Kh.) were also attached. Since that time, the department was called General and Pediatric Surgery of the Tashkent Medical Academy. Since May 2013, the department is currently headed by OKHUNOV ALISHER ORIPOVICH, MD, professor.
